Dr Spencer is a senior pre-clinical immunologist at the University of Oxford who joined the Jenner Institute in 2006 to apply her knowledge of T cells to optimising viral vectors for liver-stage malaria vaccines. Her work is focused on understanding the immune response induced by viral vectored vaccines to enable tailoring the approach for each specific disease. This has involved development of new viral vectors, optimising antigen design, combination of viral vectors and developing vaccination regimens to target the immune response to specific tissues, across a number of different vaccine programs at the Jenner.

As part of the Oxford vaccine team, her work in the last year has focussed on preclinical assesement of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19.
