International PhD Scholar Initiative

International PhD Scholar Initiative

Student and supervisor in the lab
Our International PhD Scholar Initiative enables outstanding international students to join our Medical Biology PhD Program.

The International PhD Scholar Initiative selects students on the basis of their academic record, relevant experience and a videoconference interview. Successful applicants will then be connected with prospective supervisors to select a PhD project in the student’s field of interest.

International PhD scholarships

The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute offers a number of dedicated scholarships to support International PhD Scholars. PhD scholarships are also available from the University of Melbourne, philanthropic organisations and government bodies.

The Institute's International PhD Scholarships provide a living allowance equivalent to the current Melbourne Research Scholarship rate. In addition, all PhD students receive the Institute’s $2000 per annum scholarship top-up plus a relocation allowance, health insurance coverage, and tuition fee offset.
