The Honours course consists of a research component and coursework component. The research component is the most significant aspect of the course, therefore it is important to find a research project that you are passionate to pursue.

Detailed information about the 2017 research and coursework subjects can be found in the University of Melbourne Handbook: BMSC40003, BMSC40008, BMSC40004 and BMSC40007.

How to apply

To be accepted as an Honours student at the Institute you must complete two application phases.

Part A: Application to the Institute

All prospective students first need to identify their preferred student research project, discuss it with the prospective supervisor and reach an agreement.

You then need to provide prospective supervisors with:

  • Your curriculum vitae (CV)

  • A cover letter outlining your research interests

  • Your academic transcripts (at this stage unofficial transcripts are acceptable)

Upon agreement of a project with a supervisor, an application needs to be made to the Institute. Email your CV, academic transcript and name of your supervisors to:
Kerry Ko, Scientific Education Administrator, studentapplications@wehi.edu.au

You must complete Part A (above) before proceeding to Part B.

Part B: Application to the University of Melbourne

All prospective students need to lodge an application online for Bachelor of Science (Honours) or Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) via the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS).

Step 1: This is achieved by completing your application to the Institute (Part A, see above).

Step 2: Apply online for Start Year Intake Round 1. Lodge application by 7 November 2018.

Step 3: Select your project preferences in SONIA from Monday 27 August to 9 November 2018.

In SONIA projects can be filtered by:

  • Name: either project title or supervisor
