The Institute offers an internationally respected PhD program as the Department of Medical Biology at the University of Melbourne. 

Our Scientific Education Office is available to advise and assist students with all stages of their application.

How to apply

Both domestic and international students can apply to undertake PhD study as detailed below: first identify a PhD topic of interest, reach an agreement on a project with the prospective supervisors, and then apply for PhD candidature and a scholarship via the University of Melbourne.

International students may also apply through our International PhD Scholar Initiative for general consideration for PhD study. Successful candidates will be connected with a prospective supervisor in the student's field of interest. The application deadline for International PhD Scholars (commencing in 2018) was 1 December 2017; please check in 2018 for future application dates.
