Introduction to the WEHI Advanced Genomics Facility 


The Bowden Laboratory is interested in improving how we study genomes and their organisation and expression, focusing particularly on infection, the study of individual cells, and ways to exploit DNA sequencing to develop new treatments for disease. Our laboratory hosts the WEHI Genomics facility. We support WEHI in accessing all forms of genomics technology, through a comprehensive suite of advanced preparation platforms and sequencing technologies, and a dynamic R&D program that matches WEHI’s areas of scientific focus.


Dr Geoff McDermott, Science and Technology Advisor (10x Genomics)

Using single cell and spatial technologies to advance discovery


Geoff has spent his career working at the crossroads of chemistry, biology, and microfluidics to help drive early-stage research concepts into successful scientific ventures. He earned his BSc in Forensic Science and his PhD in Chemistry from Deakin University, Australia. Geoff is an early-stage employee of 10x Genomics and is currently a Science and Technology Advisor based in Australia. Prior to this role, he held a senior position within R&D at 10x Genomics, where he was part of the product development team commercializing single cell products.


10x Genomics Chromium Single Cell products enable molecular profiling with multiomic capabilities in tens of thousands of single cells, and our Visium Spatial products provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationships between cellular function, phenotype, and location in intact tissue sections.
